Brisbane Airport is the first Australian airport to provide a common-use ground servicing equipment charging facility for its ground handlers.
The project involved the design and installation of electric chargers across the airfield to provide common-use charging infrastructure for multiple ground handlers at the Airport. Electric GSE chargers are still new in Australia and standards for their installation do not yet exist. Fire engineering and approvals were therefore key issues requiring close management and collaboration with technical specialists and airport building controllers. Stakeholder engagement was also a ley challenge due to the introduction of new operational and cost recovery models.
